Musician Billy Joel has been trying to unload his 10,000-square-foot oceanfront mansion for several years, first as a two-parcel sale for just under $30 million including the empty lot right next door, and now just the lot with the house is left lingering on the market (the empty lot has already sold for a reported $7.5 million). This Mediterranean-style eight-bedroom, ten-bathroom home in Manalapan sits on the barrier strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, which means the 1.88-acre lot has 150 feet of ocean frontage on one side of the house and a similar length of access to the Intracoastal waters on the other side. Manalapan is an exclusive enclave between Palm Beach and Boca Raton.
In 2014 Joel purchased the main property for $11.8 million and the adjacent vacant lot for $6.5 million. He listed the two properties for sale just a year and a half later and began an on-again-off-again relationship with the multiple listing service so many times that it isn’t immediately clear which price reductions applied to the parcels as a joint sale or as an individual one. But right now it is clear the house is for sale for $16.9 million with listing agent Pascal Liguori of Premier Estate Properties.
The gallery of all the ornate rooms is up above, but it’s worth pointing out a few of the unusual features, such as a kitchen that appears to have a brick ceiling.
Joel also tried to sell a second property nearby which he briefly listed for $31.9 million earlier this year, but it was taken off the market in July.
